Agreement between Georgia and Spain on the mutual recognition and exchange of national driving permits has been signed

The Georgian Minister of Internal Affairs and his Spanish colleague signed “Agreement between Georgia and the Kingdom of Spain on the Mutual Recognition and Exchange of National Driving Permits”.

Vakhtang Gomelauri, along with the delegation was on his working visit in Spain. He was hosted by his Spanish colleague- Fernando Grande-Marlaska Gomez. The parties discussed the essence of existing cooperation and future plans in the field of law enforcement.

Georgian Minister thanked his Spanish colleague for his significant contribution in deepening current cooperation between the law enforcement agencies of Georgia and Spain and expressed hope that parties will continue active work in the future in order to further enhance existing cooperation in different directions.

Upon entry into force of the Agreement, holders of a valid driving permit in force issued by one of the parties will be able to obtain the equivalent driving permits in the state of their legal residence without passing a theoretical or practical test.

The Agreement defines the classes of driving permits that will be subject to exchange after the Agreement enters into force, namely the exchange of AM, A1, A2, A, B, B+E driving licenses will be possible without passing theoretical or practical test, and as for the C1, C1+E, C, C+E, D1, D1+E, D and D+E driving permits, applicants will have to pass a driving test on roads open to general traffic, using a vehicle or set of vehicles the driving of which is authorized by said permits.

“Agreement between Georgia and the Kingdom of Spain on the Mutual Recognition and Exchange of National Driving Permits” will enter into force in the nearest future upon completing respective legal procedures.
