Opposition accusses ruling party of threatening President and government accuses President of unfounded criticism

President will be directly elected in 2018 - the Vice-speaker of the parliament, Gia Volsky made this statement. According to him, the final decision on the matter will be taken by the Constitutional Commission.

Vice Speaker responded to the statements of the President saying that the President of George has no reason for the criticism of the Commission.

"I think that under our Parliament, the elections of the President in 2018 will be direct. Aggravation becomes absolutely groundless. I agree in principle with Irakli, that such loud statements have no basis, "- said Gia Volsky.
The National Movement representatives assess the statement of the Speaker of the Parliament as a threatening.

According to Nika Rurua, Irakli Kobakhidze openly threatened Giorgi Margvelashvili that if he did not stop criticizing, the constitution will be changed and in 2018 the population will not be able to directly elect the President.

European Georgia believes that the indirect election of the President will weaken democratic institutions especially when the Georgian Dream has constitutional majority.
