Civil sector requests from European Court to extend suspension measure on "Rustavi 2" case

A declaration has been signed by 28 non-governmental organizations and sent to Strasbourg. Civil society hopes that the European Court will accept Rustavi 2 case and request to extend the suspension mechanism until the end of the proceedings. NGOs underlined in the decalration the question marks regarding the dragging of the Rustavi 2 case in the Constitutional Court and suspicious amendment to the law adopted by the authorities.

"The fact that the Strasbourg Court will discuss the Rustavi 2 case means that the domestic courts failed to provide impartial process and public confidence in this process," - said the Executive director of the non-governmental organization Transparency International, Eka Gigauri.

According to the NGOs, Georgia is facing a very important challenges today.

In their view, it should be ensured that all the mechanisms are used in order not to hinder the European and Euro-Atlantic integration course.
