"The question is whether it was necessary to change the tradition?" - Eva Gotsiridze about Strasbourg Court

Eva Gotsiridze , a member of the High Council of Justice and a former candidate for the position of judge in the European Court of Human Rights, speaks about possible political influence on the Strasbourg Court regarding Rustavi 2 case. Eva Gotsiridze said that messages from different organizations sent to Strasbourg would likely have led to the final decision.

Eva Gotsiridze thinks that Strasbourg has created the problem at the level of the national courts  and sovereignty of the country.

"As for the political motivation, one can suspect it precisely because the Court took an extraordinary decision and set up a precedent, which it has not created during the 50 years of its existence. Here arises the question whether it was necessary to change the tradition which has so far existed. I mean interim measure. The postponement of the enforcement gives preference to one party . Leaving aside the fact that this is a very serious intervention into national sovereignty and the national system of justice , the Strasbourg Court will put itself in a difficult situation as it can hinder the defence of the parties` rights in this and other specific cases, "- said Eva Gotsiridze .

As Eva Gotsiridze stated she was not familiar with a statement of the Chairman of the parliament regarding the European Court of Human Rights.
