Violence against women - a civil society appeals to government with initiative to toughen the law

Civil society demands to amend Criminal Code and appeals to the government with an initiative, to tighten law on violence against women. There are many facts of femicide in the Ombudsman’s report.

Ucha Nanuashvili believes that the government"s steps against femicide are not effective According to him, there is no proper legal framework or relevant statistics. The UN Women support the Ombudsman"s initiative as well.
Non-governmental organizations also point on s the necessity to toughen the law on women"s issues . Tamar Kordzaia says that the government does not have a political will to resolve this problem.
Members of Women"s Movement believe that femicide is an acute social problem. Representatives of the third sector demand to amend the Criminal code and make femicide a punishable crime.
