Rustavi-2 stake holders, Levan and Gia Karamanishvili release special statement

Broadcasting company Rustavi 2 stake holders, brothers Levan and Gia Karamanishivli, released a statement in which the Rustavi-2 refers to the situation.

Text of the statement:

"During the recent days Rustavi 2 processes and in particular, information about the resignation of the station"s general director, Nika Gvaramia` has been in the spotlight of public interest. We would like to state the following:

"Rumors that the broadcaster founders dismissed Gvaramia are not true. Any hint of this is the result of either lack of information or a deliberate lie. In fact, during the meeting, which focused on the company`s accumulated financial problems, Nika Gvaramia stated that he would resign, that he was leaving the position which the attending founders did not resist.due to the existing emotional background, as well as due to the fact that Gvaramia himself was considering leaving, the fact which face it publicly announced a few weeks ago. It should be noted that the meeting was convened not only by the founders, but also employees. George Karamanishvili arrived at the meeting at the request of participants.

"Notwithstanding the above, and considering that the CEO has not yet officially announced his resignation, Gvaramia can tomorrow resume his duties and responsibilities in the company. Gvaramia has the largest contribution to Georgia`s democracy and freedom of expression in the ongoing battle. His role in the defence of Rustavi2 is unvaluable.

"Finally, we would like to inform the station`s staff that a few weeks ago, founders and a general director of the companyagreed on a joint plan of overcoming financial crisis . It is necessary to implement this plan strictly, carry out management cost optimization in order to resume giving out salaries and fulfilling current liabilities ".
