Self-governing cities - NGOs urge opposition to file a suit

Non-governmental organizations appeal to the Members of Parliament and demand from the opposition factions to submit a lawsuit to the Constitutional Court. Representatives of the third sector believe that the constitution was violated by repealing the status of self-governing seven cities.

In particular, NGOs explain that preliminary discussions of the issue on creating or canceling self-governing units with the population is mandatory procedure, which has not happened in this case.

"Since such consultations have not been held during this period, we believe that it contradicts the record that is given in the Constitution. We ask oppositional political parties in the Parliament who have the authority to apply to the Constitutional Court and request to announce the decision as unconstitutional, "said Levan Natroshvili, a manager of the program of " Transparency International - Georgia ".

Representatives of the parliamentary minority say that if there will be a sufficient number of MPs, they are ready to apply to the Constitutional Court.
