Constitutional amendments - Parliamentary and Non-Parliamentary Opposition will develop a joint statement

The Parliamentary and Non-Parliamentary Opposition will discuss the constitutional amendments in the extended format today. A joint text will be developed at the meeting, which will be sent to the Venice Commission and the ruling team.

"There is no consensus problem in the opposition, we have set up our proposal packages on parliamentary election issues, as well as presidential elections. It is natural that the compromise should be on both sides, " - said Mamuka Katsitadze, leader of the New Rights Party.

Opposition parties say that the two main issues that should be reflected in the constitutional draft are the direct election of the president and the parliamentary elections of 2020 with proportionate system.

" For the opposition parties important issues are - the electoral system, the issue of the blocs, the election threshold and the very important for us is that citizens are not deprived of the right to elect the president," - said Tinatin Bokuchava, member of "UNM".

The opposition demands consensus with the government in the direction of the electoral system. They address the ruling team to specify the exact date of the consultation.
