City Council opposition expressed protest over the issue of transfer of land to Patriarchate in different districts of Tbilisi. At today`s sitting the city council discussed the transfer of about 5 thousand sq.m. to the Patriarchate for 1 GEL. Opposition parties state that almost at all councils meetings such questions are discussed which rises questions.

"Almost at all sessions spots of land are handed over to the Patriarchate for 1 GEL and even asking questions at the session becomes dangerous because it is causes hysteria when the question is asked why the city property should be transferred for 1 lari, Even to the Patriarchate, "- said Khatuna Samnidze, a member of Republican Party.

"National Movement" is also against the transfer of land to the Patriarchate for 1 GEL.

"I do not welcome this process, because I believe that we promote the corruption and property related passions in our church," - said Sevdia Ugrekhelidze.

According to Jaba Samushia, a majority member of City Council, the patriarchate receives lands only in the areas where there are no churches and monasteries.
