Georgian diplomats officially requested help from Russian side - Exclusive interview with Maria Zakharova


Georgian diplomats officially requested the Russian side for assistance. An official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry confirms the scandalous information in an interview with " Courier"


Maria Zaharova explains that the request of the Georgian side to join the fire brigades in the Borjomi Gorge was received via the Swiss diplomatic line in Moscow, which serves for communication between the diplomats of the two countries since 2008.


We received a request from Tbilisi to help in a fight with fire in Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park on August 23. The notification was issued from the Georgian Interests Section in the Swiss embassy in Russia. The Russian side immediately responded to this request and allocated the Russian emergency service jet- "IL 76", but later the Georgian side thanked us and told that the fire was localized and the assistance for the Russian side was no longer needed,”- states maria Zakharova.
"As for Karasin-Abashidze"s conversation, I can tell you that the contact is maintained at this level and the dialogue is going on, but I do not have any other information at this stage," Maria Zakharova told Courier.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia does not comment on the issue. According to them, the explanation made by Zurab Abashidze, the Prime Minister"s Special Representative for Relations with Russia in enough.

Abashidze told media that he had a communication with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin, after which the Georgian side decided to ask Russia for assistance.
