The draft law on marijuana cultivation, which has led to the confrontation between the government and the Patriarchate, is temporarily suspended. The ruling team is not going to withdraw the bill and will return to the draft law after the elections.
This is confirmed by the Georgian Dream"s presidential candidate Salome Zourabichvili who says that discussion about the cultivation of cannabls will continue.
"It is my position and I have said that such issues that concern the healthy life of the community and the country"s demographic future do not exist unless the Church"s position is shared and not only the Church"s position, it should be public discussions and I will take part in the discussions," says Salome Zurabishvili.
The mayor of the capital says that it is necessary to discuss the issue with the broader engagement of the society. According to Kakha Kaladze, if the consensus on the matter is reached then the decision should be taken.
Member of parliamentary majority Nukri Kantaria thinks that the idea should continue to be discussed but not because this issue should be passed on Wednesday at the Parliament session.
In the opposition believe that the ruling party suspended the draft law temporarily. The presidential candidate Grigol Vashadze said that the draft law will be returned after the elections.
The government argues that 1 billion GEL will be generated for the budget as a result of cultivation and export of marijuana, which the opposition claims is absurd.
