Crimes committed by juveniles - police sees way out in tightening law


The breach of the law by minors was more frequent in 2018 than in 2017. According to police statistics, teenagers aged 14 to 18 are most often robbed garages and warehouses. The investigations has started on 908 cases. 78% of the offenses committed by juveniles are theft, 11% health damage, 2% drugs purchase-keeping and consumption.The crimes committed by juveniles are not accurately reflected in the public statistics today.
The legislation does not impose responsibility on children under the age of 14 and investigation is not launched into the offense committed by them. After liberalization of the law, the number of crimes committed by children under 14 has increased significantly, the situation is so severe that the Interior Minister does not exclude the tightening of the law.
Tightening of the law for punishing children is considered as a dangerous method by the chair of the UN Children"s Committee. According to Renata Winter, the Georgian government always tries to solve the problem methods with aggressive methods , which has counter result and the number of crimes by teenagers increases.
The number of offenses committed by juveniles is growing in the country. The police sees the way out in tightening of the law . It is already known that sexual violence against juveniles, the so -called Pedophilia, will be punished with life imprisonment. Electronic databases will also be created where all those people who have committed a sexual offense will be registered.
