The Communications Commission violates the freedom of expression - Khatia Dekanoidze

The decision made yesterday by the Communications Commission [ComCom] regarding television stations and imposing sanctions on them is inconsistent with the legislative framework. Such a statement made Khatia Dekanoidze, one of the leaders of the United National Movement.

“ComCom violates freedom of expression. Of course, this decision is a step back on the path of democracy and media freedom, and, of course, “future electoral subject” does not exist as a legal concept, which was actually the reason that Georgian Dream used.

Yesterday’s decision is proof that Georgian Dream is not going to implement any 12-point recommendations. This is proof that the Government itself is financing an anti-Western campaign on official channels, a targeted attack on the ambassadors of the European Union and the United States in social networks. This government is using leverage through the Commission to effectively silence the main stream and other critical media. Therefore, our party considers yesterday’s decision as another obstacle on the path of Georgia’s European integration”, - said Khatia Dekanoidze.

The ComCom issued a written warning to TV Pirveli and Formula for illegally airing political advertisements during the non-election period, and fined Mtavari Arkhi 1% of the broadcaster’s annual income.
