I waved it [the EU flag] for the first time in 2004 - Saakashvili responds to the decision to grant Georgia EU candidate status

The third president of Georgia responds to the granting of candidate status to Georgia by the European Union on social networks.

“I am a proud Georgian and a proud citizen of Ukraine. Ukraine opened Georgia’s path to Europe, but the Georgian people are the main entity that brings us closer to the day of our accession to the European Union.

Europe has entered the Caucasus, and we will ensure that the European flag, once waved in Georgia, will never land again. I raised it for the first time in 2004. In 2008, Russia tried to lower it, but failed.

Now the European Union itself has raised its flag in our region and nothing can change that”, - writes Mikheil Saakashvili on his Facebook page.
