The Georgian Dream is initiating constitutional changes regarding family values. The relevant statement made today Mamuka Mdinaradze, the leader of the parliamentary majority.
“As you know, we announced legislative changes against pseudo-liberal propaganda, in connection with which we set a 2-week deadline for opposition representatives and interested parties to present their opinions or their own versions on the regulation of this issue. No such initiative has been voiced by anyone.
On the contrary, we have seen even preliminary preparations against the initiative. We emphasize once again that it is our responsibility, on the one hand, to protect all constitutional rights and freedoms of any person, no matter how unconventional and different their way of life may be, and on the other hand, we must protect family values and our future generations from the expected irreparable consequences of pseudo-liberal propaganda.
For the guaranteed provision of this goal and due to the great importance of the issue, we decided to initiate, first of all, constitutional amendments, where the guarantees of family values and the protection of minors will be clearly written, after which, in the near future, we will also initiate corresponding and more specific changes in the laws, which include about several dozen laws. The changes in the legislation, on the other hand, will be in full compliance with the Constitution, and in the future, we will initiate constitutional changes for the firm implementation of the mentioned goals in the long term.
Based on our current opposition, we really do not have much hope that they will support these constitutional amendments, however, we will do our best to secure support in the Parliament of the next convocation”, - explained Mamuka Mdinaradze.
