For this summer tourist season, Batumi now has a new recreation area-the full rehabilitation of Zhiuli Shartava Alley of Heroes and the construction of footbridges have been finalized.
Under the project, underground communications were replaced, an irrigation system, sidewalks, commercial and recreation areas, fountains, and bicycle parking stations were built, and decorative lamps of various types were installed.
The alley’s dendrology has been modified and upgraded with 12,000 green saplings of various species selected to match the region’s climate conditions.
Also, the construction of 3 metal-structure footbridges linking the alley’s sections is now completed. Elevators were installed on the bridges for persons with disabilities. Each footbridge, together with a wheelchair ramp, connects different sections of the 3-part boulevard, and the boulevard proper to the beach.
Implemented by the Municipal Development Fund of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure, the rehabilitation project for the Alley of Heroes received GEL 25.4 million in financing from the state budget.
