Georgia 3rd in world for freedom from physical violence by authorities – V-Dem

According to the latest ranking by Varieties of Democracy [V-Dem], Georgia has secured the 3rd position in the world ranking for freedom from physical violence by authorities over the past 11 years.

Georgia’s annual assessment improved to a 90.3% on a 100% assessment system, reflecting an advancement in ensuring freedom from political assassinations and torture by the Government.

The change follows Georgia’s ranking in 2012, when it was placed 122nd in the world and was considered the “most perilous” country in Europe after Russia in terms of physical violence from the authorities.

In the 2023 results, Georgia has outpaced several G7, NATO, and EU member states as well as developed countries, including the UK, Poland, Turkey, North Macedonia, and Israel.

The V-Dem is led by investigators, project managers, regional managers, over 134 coordinators and about 4,000 experts worldwide.
