Georgian Government agrees the 1st national strategy for consumer rights protection

The Government of Georgia has agreed the country’s first national strategy for the protection of consumer rights, the Competition and Consumer Agency of the country.

The 4-year strategy encompasses legislative, institutional, and practical reforms, as well as efforts to raise awareness among consumers and businesses. It also emphasises strengthening cooperation with both international and local organisations to address challenges in the sector.

The strategy drew on international best practices in consumer protection and recommendations incorporated from the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development. Besides, it aligns with the latest European Union consumer protection legislation and the Sustainable Development Goals outlined at the UN Sustainable Development Summit in 2015.
