Natural gas will be additionally supplied to about 400 populated areas, consequently engaging 57,000 new subscribers into the network – Kobakhidze

The strength of the energy sector has exceptional importance for Georgia’s progress and the development of the country’s economy, Georgian Prime Minister stated in his speech at today’s event marking Energy Specialist Day.

He underlined the achievements in this field over the past few years and pointed out the increasing number of energy-generating sites since 2012, alongside upgraded electric power and natural gas transmission infrastructure.

“Natural gas will be additionally supplied to about 400 populated areas, consequently engaging 57,000 new subscribers into the network.

In 2013, as a result of the budget-financed program for providing natural gas to the regions, over 377,000 new subscribers joined the natural gas network, a major achievement benefitting scores of our compatriots”, - said the Prime Minister.

He also noted the enormous contribution of the energy sector to the process of Georgia’s EU accession.

“The contribution of the energy sector to the process of Georgia”s EU accession deserves special mention. In 2016, Georgia became a member of the Energy Community, and many reforms have been carried out since to align Georgian legislation in this area with EU legislation”, - added Irakli Kobakhidze.

He thanked Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Levan Davitashvili and the field"s specialists for their exceptional contributions to the energy sphere.

“I am especially thankful to the entire Economy Ministry team, First Vice Prime Minister/ Minister of Economy Levan Davitashvili, and the field’s successful leadership for their exceptional contributions to the development of the energy sphere. The progress experienced in the energy sector over these years must be credited to each specialist in this area, each energy specialist. And I join you in celebrating your professional holiday”, - said the Head of the Government.
