By 2030, electricity production should exceed consumption, and I am sure that we will successfully achieve this ambitious goal. Such a statement made today the Prime Minister of Georgia at the event dedicated to the Day of the Energy worker.

“I congratulate everyone on the professional day, energy workers of our country, all specialists of the field. Your work plays a special role for the full functioning of all branches of the Georgian economy, as well as the security system and all spheres of public life.

When we talk about the progress of Georgia, the development of economy, ambitious future plans and tasks, the strength of the energy sector is given special importance in all of this.

Thus, your work and experience are of great importance for the creation of a better future for Georgia, to which we all aspire together.

The recent achievements of the energy sector deserve a special mention - from 2012 to the present, the number of generation facilities has significantly increased, electricity and natural gas transmission infrastructure has improved. The population’s access to electricity and natural gas has expanded, cross-border connections have been strengthened, and the export, import and transit of electricity, natural gas or oil has increased.

The local production of electricity in 2012 was 9698 million kWh, and by the end of 2024, it will reach 14911 million kWh, which is the greatest progress. Besides, between 2012 and 2024, 66 power plants were built with a total installed capacity of about 1255 MW.

We have an ambitious goal of becoming a fully self-sufficient country in terms of electricity by 2030, for which electricity production must exceed consumption. I am sure that together with you we will successfully achieve this ambitious goal”, - said Irakli Kobakhidze.
