Education, Science, and Youth Affairs Committee presenting 2020-2024 Activity Report

The Education, Science, and Youth Affairs Committee presented the report on its activities for the first 8 months of 2024 and its performance from 2020 to 2024.

As noted by the Chair of the Education, Science, and Youth Affairs Committee, Givi Mikanadze, over the past 8 months, the committee held 27 meetings, reviewed 9 legislative proposals with leading status and 1 on a mandatory basis. The committee made decisions on 3 legislative proposals and reviewed 2 international treaties/agreements for ratification.

“This year, 3 thematic studies were conducted. During the 8 months, the committee signed 2 communiques in the area of international cooperation with the relevant committees of the legislative bodies of Latvia and Armenia.

By the end of October, the Regulatory Impact Assessment (RIA) on first-grader registration, the development of an Education and Science Concept, and the study of STEM education opportunities in Georgia would be completed”, - said Givi Mikanadze.

He also discussed the activities of the Education, Science, and Youth Affairs Committee in the 10th Convocation of Parliament and presented statistical data.

According to him, the committee held 121 meetings in the Tenth Convocation of Parliament, reviewed 48 legislative proposals with leading status and 21 on a mandatory basis. It also considered 15 legislative initiatives and 18 international treaties/agreements for ratification.

From 2020 to 2024, the committee conducted 12 thematic studies and received 1,670 official correspondences. Since 2022, the committee has participated in the National Vocational Education Award competition and established a special category to support inclusive vocational education.

“I wish this committee even more success in the Eleventh Convocation of Parliament, and most importantly, more results. I am confident that the Education, Science, and Youth Affairs Committee will be even more significantly involved in various processes. The function of this committee is crucial for the upbringing and development of our future generations”, - added Givi Mikanadze.
