“I hope yesterday’s decision [on sanctions] will be the last one in the direction of destroying relations. I hope such a decision will not be made in the future. I expressed this hope at the meeting with the Ambassador. I want to thank the Ambassador for her constructive attitude. However, it seems that her attitude is not enough to make healthy decisions as a whole, which is very sad.

Such steps, decisions, do not contribute to restarting relations. For 4 years there were serious difficulties in these relations. These difficulties were mainly caused by the activities of the previous ambassador. In such conditions, it is very important to reset relations in this background. This requires a healthy and fair approach, although such sanctions, decisions do not help to reset relations, especially when sanctions are imposed on high-ranking policemen, people who fought in the August war. This is an extreme insult to our state. This is fundamentally unacceptable to us. I expressed my concern to the American Ambassador and made one thing clear - if another step is added to this, we will have to discuss in principle the revision of certain positions. In principle, a non-partnership attitude on the part of such a state, which is called not only a partner, but also a strategic partner, is unacceptable. Therefore, I call on everyone to act rationally and fairly. This will benefit Georgian-US relations.

As for the step that was taken [sanctions], it is aimed at destroying Georgian-American relations. You can discuss for whom it might suit you… We see that Joe Biden does not make such decisions. Unfortunately, there are oligarchic problems and the unfair decisions that are made are the result. I am sure that Biden is not even aware of this decision”, - said Irakli Kobakhidze.
