Intelligence Service plays a leading role in our national security system. Your efforts to protect Georgia from internal and external threats contribute to peace, security, and well-being in our country - Papuashvili

Georgia’s Intelligence Service plays a leading role in our national security system. Your efforts to protect Georgia from internal and external threats contribute to peace, security, and well-being in our country, the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament said during his speech at the event dedicated to the Day of the Intelligence Service officers of Georgia.

As he noted, Georgia is in a complex geopolitical situation in terms of security, and it is thanks to the Intelligence Service and other agencies that it is possible to clearly understand the situation in the region and the world and to prevent conflicts.

“The Intelligence Service has a leading role in our national security system. In an ever-changing world with growing challenges, the importance of the Intelligence Service is critically high. Your efforts to protect Georgia from internal and external threats support peace, security, and prosperity in our country. Georgia is in a challenging geopolitical position regarding security. With the help of the Intelligence Service and other agencies, we manage to clearly see the picture in the region and the world, prevent conflicts from spilling over into Georgia, maintain peace, and support the irreversible development of the country. In the face of significant geopolitical changes, each of you has a vital mission. In the modern era, with the sharp increase in the spread of disinformation, it becomes particularly important to identify and accurately assess key issues affecting Georgia’s security environment promptly, which requires effective and coordinated work across various intelligence disciplines. The complexity of modern security issues requires not only vigilance and high responsibility from you but also innovative approaches, flexibility, and enhanced adaptability. We see how you carry out your duties with high professionalism, a high level of confidentiality, without public recognition, and with dedication to the country. In recent years, the country’s intelligence capabilities have significantly improved. The service has professional personnel and modern infrastructure”, - said Shalva Papuashvili.

He also spoke about the close cooperation between the service and Parliament, expressing hope that this practice will continue effectively.

“I am particularly pleased with the close cooperation of the service with Parliament, including with the Defense and Security Committee and the Trust Group. In the 10th Parliament, hearings were regularly held in these formats, and MPs visited the Intelligence Service multiple times. Parliament was always informed about security environment trends as well as institutional reforms implemented or underway within the service.

I am confident that this effective practice will continue with the next Parliament. The Intelligence Service has and will always have the support of the Parliament of Georgia. Our strength stems from our ability to work together, which helps ensure a safe and successful future for Georgia.

We see and appreciate each of your dedication, work, effort, and determination. You are the guardians of our country"s security, and we sincerely thank you for that. Once again, congratulations on your professional day. I wish you continued success in your crucial and responsible work”, - said the Speaker.
