Together we can create a tourism sector that not only responds to conflicts, but also prevents and resolves them - Zurab Pololikashvili

Together we can create a tourism sector that not only responds to conflicts, but also prevents and resolves them. The Secretary-General of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation, said this at the celebration of the World Tourism Day in Tbilisi.

“There is no tourism without peace, and at the same time, tourism can bring peace. Peace is what we need, now more than ever. War is everywhere around us. Many of us have not only seen war on TV or in newspapers, we have lived in it. Every day we see that civilians, especially women and children, are suffering.

We see how the entire population is traumatized, the economies of the countries are destroyed. We see geopolitical tensions, inequality, misinformation and the climate crisis.

After two world wars, tourism was used as a way to restore and promote peace between nations. I see a future where the UN and all partners work hand in hand for a more just and peaceful world. Together, we can create a tourism sector that not only responds to conflicts, but also prevents and resolves them”, - said Zurab Pololikashvili.
