A deliberate campaign by the so-called “unbiased” monitoring organisations is aimed at preparing public and international observers to misjudge the upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled for October 26. Such a statement made today Givi Mikanadze, Chairman of the Parliament’s Committee on Education, Science and Youth Affairs.
“As the Election Day is approaching, it became increasingly clear that the primary agenda of the “radical” wing of the opposition, along with affiliated monitoring organisations and media outlets, is to create false perceptions among the public and international partners, resorting to all forms of manipulation. Today’s interim report is further proof of this.
The so-called unbiased monitoring organisations continue to disregard pre-election violations against the ruling team in their published reports and statements. This further convinces us that a deliberate campaign is preparing the public and international observers to misjudge the elections. In response, the ruling team is continuing its peaceful pre-election campaign and maintaining constant communication with international observer organisations…
On October 1, Michael Roth published information on how Georgian citizens living abroad can register to vote in the elections. He made public the contact information of two persons who, according to him, will help Georgian citizens in the registration procedure, which is clearly foreign interference in pre-election processes.
Starting from October 1, the United States Embassy in Georgia systematically posted visual messages on its Facebook page, the content of which [“democracies do not prohibit oppositions”, “countries cannot develop in isolation”, “isolation of Georgia from the West is against the interests of its people”] was of a political nature depending on the context and reflected the position against the ruling team.
On October 4, the European Union Ambassador to Georgia, Paweł Herczyński, publicly said that the information displayed on billboards within the framework of the Georgian Dream party’s election campaign is outrageous, shameful, and horrifying.
A more comprehensive and detailed report on pre-election violations identified between September 16 and October 6 had been uploaded on the Georgian Dream party’s Facebook page, the mentioned report available in both Georgian and English, would be shared with the diplomatic corps, international observers, and all those interested in the conduct of free and fair elections in Georgia”, - said Givi Mikanadze.
