Investigators of the Special Investigation Service were equipped with Body Worn Video Cameras

Investigators and operative employees of the Special Investigation Service were equipped with body-worn video cameras, and the video recording system was installed in the vehicles of the service, which is the best model of conducting transparent investigations using modern digital technologies.

Head of the Special Investigation Service Koka Katsitadze and First Deputy Giorgi Kvaratskhelia got acquainted with the functioning of the body cameras and vehicle video registrators together with the employees of the Investigative Department on site.

Through continuous video monitoring, the new system will enable the investigating body to obtain video evidence throughout the investigation and establish contemporary standards of investigation, thereby improving the guarantees of the protection of the rights of arrested individuals and ensuring the high-quality of the investigation process.

The rules for using body cameras and vehicle video recorders were developed as a result of the study of successful international investigative practices, and they were approved by the order of the head of the Special Investigation Service. In accordance with the aforementioned order, the service will, both on its own initiative and in the case where a citizen or lawyer appeals, periodically monitor the quality of investigative activities and ensure the protection of the rights of the arrested accused individuals.
