The Ministry of Internal Affairs releases a statement regarding the yesterday’s developments on Melikishvili Avenue in Tbilisi.
“As is known to the public, the Ministry of Internal Affairs has launched an investigation into the incident that took place on September 8 of the current year on Melikishvili Avenue in Tbilisi, near the territory of Kakhi Kaladze’s election headquarters, under Article 126 (1), part I of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which refers to violence committed in group. Investigative actions are in progress.
In addition to the mentioned, based on the statement of representatives of the Georgian Dream - Democratic Georgia party, an investigation has been also launched into another case, in accordance with the Article 162, I part of the Criminal Code of Georgia, referring to violence or threats of violence during pre-election agitation and pre-election campaign events.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs calls on all citizens to refrain from violence, incitement to violence, and other actions that might damage the pre-election environment and prevent election actors from campaigning, which in turn is an act punishable by law”, - reads the statement.
