The Municipal Development Fund of the Ministry of Infrastructure has announced a tender for the design and construction of a large-scale infrastructure rehabilitation project in Abastumani, a settlement in Adigeni Municipality.
"The 1st stage of the work will involve pre-project surveys to identify which infrastructure requires rehabilitation in accordance with the overall urban development concept.
The principal aim of the project is to preserve Abastumani`s historical environment and cultural character whilst, at the same time, employing modern and innovative technologies throughout the rehabilitation process.
The rehabilitation of Abastumani`s infrastructure will enhance the region`s tourism and economic potential, preserve its historical heritage, and create a comfortable environment for both local residents and visitors.
In support of the development of this unique resort, the state and Bidzina Ivanishvili`s charity foundation Kartu have already carried out a considerable number of infrastructure projects. These include the construction and equipping of a new centre for the treatment of chronic pulmonary conditions and an outpatient clinic fitted with the latest technology; the full rehabilitation of the historical buildings along the resort`s central street, the National Astrophysical Observatory, the cable car station and the central park; and the preparation of a general development plan for the resort.
The construction and rehabilitation of Abastumani`s water supply, drainage systems and sewage treatment facilities have also been completed. Work continues on the full rehabilitation of the Baghdati–Abastumani road, the construction of a bypass road, and the construction of the Paragraph hotel complex.
The works to be carried out under the newly announced tender represent the final stage of the resort`s rehabilitation. Upon completion of the project, Abastumani will be fully established as a modern resort meeting international standards and will strengthen its position on the world tourism map".
