Officers of the Central Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs have arrested 5 people at different times for the illegal purchase and storage of a particularly large amount of narcotic drugs, as well as psychotropic substances, attempted purchase and storage, and facilitation of their sale.

Among the detainees are citizens of Georgia, as well as Russia, Kyrgyzstan, and Ukraine.

The investigation established that the detained persons were planning to sell a particularly large amount of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances sent to them in disguised packages from abroad.

As part of the operational measures taken to expose the accused persons, law enforcement officers carried out an undercover delivery of parcels sent to them from various countries, after which the criminal intent of the detainees was confirmed.

The police seized various types of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances in particularly large quantities from the parcels, as well as from the defendants` residences, as evidence, including: 311 MDMA pills, up to 9 kilograms of mephedrone, more than 2 kilograms of methadone, up to 4 kilograms of hashish, up to 1.5 kilograms of clephedrone, marijuana, a mixture of the psychotropic substance ketamine and the narcotic drug alpha-PVP.

The police also seized materials necessary for packaging narcotic drugs.

The investigation is underway under Articles 19-260, 260, 260-4 and 261 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which provide for up to 20 years or life imprisonment.
