After a hiatus of several weeks, the Interim Parliamentary Commission for Studying Price Formation will convene again today. This time, lawmakers are expecting representatives from pharmaceutical companies at the legislative body.
The session will focus on discussing the structure of the medicines market, the pricing chain, and the sectorэs operational processes.
The effectiveness of the Сommissionэs work and the possibility of achieving real results remain to be seen - preliminary data is expected to be released in April.
“We want to study the pricing chain. It should be noted that in the case of medicines, the pricing chain is shorter. It consists of two components: the manufacturer-importer and the networks that handle their own distribution and have their own logistics centers. Why is a short chain beneficial? Because it avoids additional operational costs, which has a positive impact on the final price. The reference pricing program was launched in 2023. We want to study how effectively it is working and what additional steps can be taken”, - said Shota Berekashvili, Chairman of the Commission.
