Mikheil Saakashvili, the former president of Georgia, nominates Nanuka Zhorzholiani as the candidate for the position of the chairman of the United National Movement.
"Regarding changes within the United National Movement (UNM), they will be fundamental, not cosmetic. The party does not simply need to be revived; it must be brought into even better shape than it was back in 2003.
In July, the terms of all party officials will expire. We must hold leadership elections in a format that rules out any interference from the regime. My candidate for the chairmanship is Nanuka Zhorzholiani. She possesses the experience, energy, and vision required to tackle this challenge. At the same time, I invite everyone who has a desire and a vision for reform to join the electoral process. The election will be open to all, and it must be a contest of ideas.
Should she win, Nanuka will deliver reforms in tandem with the party leadership, uniting our seasoned veterans with fresh new faces. In all of this, they have my absolute trust. Unlike the majority of other political parties, the UNM is neither a business project nor a party ruled by a single individual. It is governed from the bottom up by a massive grassroots base, and the stance of these supporters is decisive for us. This overhaul is both essential and urgent, especially under the current conditions where I, Khabe [Levan Khabeishvili], Irakli Nadiradze, and other leaders are behind bars. Our victory, and the victory of Georgia, is inevitable", - writes Mikheil Saakashvili on his Facebook page.
