"As you know, tuition is free in state universities for students enrolled in the 2026-2027 academic year.

This means that during the first 2 semesters, the state fully and unconditionally covers the student`s tuition fees in state universities.

To maintain 100% funding, a student must accumulate more than 80% of the credits, meaning only one subject can be left to pass. In such a case, their full funding will continue, but if they fail to complete more than 80%, the state will pay 50% of their tuition fees. In other words, if a student accumulates more than 80% of the credits starting from the third semester, the state will continue to fully fund their tuition fees.

This approach is a common practice worldwide and is a recommendation from World Bank experts.

Even if a student fails to earn a credit in just one subject starting from the third semester, but accumulates all credits in the following semester, the full funding will be restored.

This is not about learning outcomes, academic achievements, or grades; it is solely about accumulating sufficient credits. If the 51-point threshold in a subject is passed, it implies that the student has already earned the credit.

It is important to note that if a student, after receiving 50% funding, restores their 100% credit performance, the state will resume the full funding of their tuition costs", - explained Zviad Gabisonia.
