Projects worth up to GEL 21 million will be implemented in Shida Kartli for amelioration infrastructure development

For amelioration infrastructure development, capital projects worth up to GEL 10 million will be implemented in Kareli municipality, in 2026. Implementation of the projects will contribute to the improvement of the condition of amelioration infrastructure and the enhancement of farmers’ access to water.

The rehabilitation of the Skra-Kareli irrigation scheme, with the cost of GEL 5 333 558 has already been completed in Kareli municipality.

Currently, two projects with a total value of more than GEL 2 066 899 are underway: the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the emergency spillway gate of Shakshaketi inverted siphon and the headworks, and the construction of a bridge on the main canal of Skra-Kareli irrigation scheme.

Furthermore, for ensuring water intake for Skra-Kareli irrigation scheme from the Mtkvari River works with an estimated cost of GEL 2 100 000 are planned. As a result of the project, water supply will be improved across 3 240 ha.

Along with the capital projects, operation works are underway in Kareli municipality to ensure the proper functioning of amelioration infrastructure. Totally, 115 km of irrigation canals have been cleaned and rehabilitated, five major hydraulic structures have been repaired, and 84 hydraulic structures of various types have been replaced or repaired.

The development of irrigation infrastructure is also actively underway in other municipalities of Shida Kartli region. In 2026, capital projects worth up to GEL 21 million will be implemented in the region, improving water supply to 13 600 ha of land area.

The rehabilitation of Skra-Kareli irrigation scheme has already been completed in the region, 5 projects are currently underway, and while 2 more projects are planned. Furthermore, within operation activities, 278 km of irrigation canals have been cleaned and rehabilitated in the municipalities of Shida Kartli, 18 major hydraulic structures have been repaired, and 294 hydraulic structures of various types have been replaced or repaired.

For strengthening agricultural and economic development of the regions, “Georgian Amelioration” ltd is gradually implementing both construction and rehabilitation projects, as well as operation works in municipalities. These efforts are aimed at ensuring proper functioning of amelioration infrastructure and reliable water supply for farmers.
