President of Georgia attended the opening ceremony of the 9th World Forum on Energy Regulation in Tbilisi.

The event was attended by representatives of the executive and legislative branches of government, the Chairman of the Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission, as well as representatives of international organizations, energy associations, and donor institutions.

Mikheil Kavelashvili spoke about the importance of energy independence, noting that, in the contemporary geopolitical environment, it constitutes an integral part of a state’s sovereignty and national security. As he noted, Georgia has the potential to develop its own resources and strengthen the country’s role in the energy space connecting Europe and Asia.

“We live in an era in which global energy security, a sound investment environment and the development of renewable energy are prerequisites for the development of every state.

By joining the Energy Community and establishing a well-regulated energy market, Georgia has created a transparent, competitive and predictable regulatory framework that ensures the protection of consumer rights and investor confidence”, - said the President.

He highlighted the Black Sea Submarine Electricity Cable Project, which will create a new opportunity for Georgia to establish an energy connection with Europe and contribute to the development of the South Caucasus as a regional hub for green energy.

Mikheil Kavelashvili noted that hosting the 9th World Forum on Energy Regulation in Tbilisi once again demonstrates Georgia’s importance in advancing international cooperation and dialogue on energy security issues. The Forum brings together up to 1,000 high-ranking guests from various countries around the world in Tbilisi.
