The renewal of the Tbilisi Metro with 111 new cars is indeed a historic event in the life of our city, as the last time new cars were added to the Tbilisi Metro was 34 years ago. Mayor of Tbilisi said during his visit to the subway car manufacturing company (CRRC) in China, where the presentation ceremony of the new train produced specifically for the Tbilisi Metro was held.

As noted at the event, the new train cars were designed specifically for the capital of Georgia, intended to become an integral part of the Tbilisi Metro and a symbol of Georgia-China friendship.

Hope was expressed that the event’s slogan – "Successful Development of the Tbilisi Metro" - represents a real perspective.

Kakha Kaladze spoke about the importance of the subway system for the capital and noted that today breathes new life into the metro network.

"I am glad that today we are visiting one of the world`s largest subway car manufacturing companies (CRRC) for an innovation that is highly important for our capital, and I celebrate this joyful fact together with you. The renewal of the Tbilisi Metro with 111 new cars is indeed a historic event in the life of our city, as the last time new cars were added to the Tbilisi Metro was 34 years ago.

The Tbilisi Metro has a long history. In its time, its creation was the most significant step toward the city`s transport development. Today, we are continuing this history and breathing new life into the metro network, which must respond to the needs of modern Tbilisi.

The metro is not just a means of transportation for Tbilisi. It is a part of the city’s daily life. This is the transport used by hundreds of thousands of people every day. Therefore, renewing the metro does not just mean updating the transport; it is a step toward creating an even more comfortable, safe, and modern environment", - said the Mayor.

As he noted, the metro car renewal project could not have been implemented without the great support of the Government of Georgia and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).

"The cooperation of "GT Group" LLC with the largest manufacturer of subway cars - the China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation [CRRC] – is of paramount importance… At this stage, the completely modern first 4-car train has already been completed and will arrive in Tbilisi by the end of the year. Furthermore, a total of 25 trains will be added to the Tbilisi Metro; among them, 14 trains will consist of 4 cars, while 11 will be 5-car trains.

I want to thank everyone who participated in this complex and responsible process. I thank our hosting Chinese side for the amazing and warm welcome, and for sharing in our joy.

Now standing behind me is a new car designed for the Tbilisi Metro, which at the same time represents a new step toward the future of Tbilisi. Congratulations on the successful implementation of the project!" – said Kakha Kaladze.
