Rehabilitation of Shakshaketi inverted siphon to start in Kareli municipality

Rehabilitation works are commencing on Shakshaketi inverted siphon, emergency gate and headworks of Tashiskari irrigation scheme in Kareli Municipality.

The project envisages the reconstruction of the above-mentioned amelioration infrastructure, as well as the construction of a service house, an access road and improvement of the adjacent area. Gigla Tamazashvili, General Director of “Georgian Amelioration” Ltd, together with the heads of the company’s relevant departments, inspected on-situ the construction site and the existing infrastructure.

“Large-scale rehabilitation and reconstruction of amelioration infrastructure is actively underway in various regions of the country.

The aim is to ensure the proper functioning of irrigation schemes and the reliable supply of irrigation water.

These works contribute to expanding the area under guaranteed irrigation and creating better conditions for farmers to carry out agricultural activities.

Given the current condition of Shakshaketi inverted siphon, its rehabilitation was essential for ensuring the proper functioning of the irrigation scheme. At this stage, the tender has been completed and the winning company has been selected. Upon completion of the works, farmers and local residents in the region will benefit from stable and uninterrupted supply of irrigation water”, - said Gigla Tamazashvili.

The cost of the project amounts to more than GEL 2 million, and its completion is scheduled for the end of April 2027. The rehabilitation will significantly enhance the durability and reliability of Shakshaketi inverted siphon and headworks, ensuring the proper functioning of the irrigation scheme and stable supply of irrigation water to water users.
