As a result of operative-searching and investigative activities carried out by employees of the Investigation Service of Ministry of Finance of Georgia, together with the Customs Department of the Revenue Service and in coordination with the General Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia, one person was detained on the fact of violation of the rules of movement of especially large quantity of goods across the customs border.
Investigation determined that a citizen of Georgia transported up to 8 kilograms of gold jewelry across the customs border of Georgia through the “Sarpi” Customs Checkpoint, concealing it from customs control in a specially arranged hiding place in the spare battery of the motor vehicle under his control.
The customs value of the seized jewelry amounts to nearly GEL 1,700,000.
Investigation is underway under Article 214, Part 2 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which envisages imprisonment from 5 to 7 years.
