Imereti police seized up to 40 kg of narcotics worth over 14 million GEL - 2 foreign citizens arrested

As a result of complex operational measures and investigative actions conducted by the employees of Imereti Police Department under the Ministry of Internal Affairs, an organized group of drug offenders has been identified and the fact of selling up to 40 kilograms of narcotics has been prevented.

The estimated value of the seized narcotics on the so-called black market exceeds 14 million GEL.

The investigation established that the two detained foreign citizens were involved in a narcotics trafficking scheme. They were placing the narcotics in pre-selected locations in several regions of Georgia, after which they sent the relevant coordinates and photos of the location to interested parties.

As a result of the personal search of the accused and the inspection of the places indicated by them, law enforcement officers seized 117 packages of “methadone” weighing up to 12 kilograms and 267 packages of “hashish” weighing up to 28 kilograms as evidence.

The investigation is underway under Articles 260 and 260-4 of the Criminal Code of Georgia. The crimes envision up to 20 years or life imprisonment.

Employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs actively continue the fight against illegal circulation, distribution and sale of narcotic drugs throughout the country.
