On October 3-4, 2026, representatives of the Public Defender of Georgia visited Penitentiary Establishment No. 6, where they met with convicted prisoner Giorgi Davitadze and three other inmates who were protesting the actions taken against Davitadze.
“It is publicly known that on October 4, 2026, Giorgi Davitadze swallowed several small, unidentified objects. During the meeting with the Public Defender’s representative, Davitadze stated that he felt well; in addition, he refused to be transferred to a clinic.
Davitadze stated that this decision was a form of protest and that he would not agree to a transfer to a clinic until the prisoners who had been moved to de-escalation rooms in support of him were returned to their cells.
The Public Defender’s representatives also spoke with the prisoners who had expressed their support to Giorgi Davitadze. They discussed the reasons for the protest and the conditions within the facility.
The Public Defender’s Office will continue to monitor the protection of Giorgi Davitadze’s rights”, - reads the statement.
