The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, David Songulashvili, visited JSC Rustavi Azot to inspect the advanced technologies introduced as part of a modernisation project involving the catalytic purification reactor in the plant`s nitric acid production unit.
Nino Latsabidze, Mayor of Rustavi, also attended the event.
As part of the project, a next-generation catalyst was loaded into the reactor, its internal components were fully replaced, and a continuous emissions monitoring system (CEMS) was installed to ensure the continuous monitoring of pollutant emissions. The modernisation is expected to support the adoption of advanced environmental technologies at the facility, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and improve environmental monitoring of industrial processes.
"Introducing modern technologies enables to reduce the adverse environmental impact of industrial processes while ensuring the sustainability of economic activity. The project implemented at Rustavi Azot is a good example of how tangible environmental benefits can be achieved through modern technologies, private-sector investment, international partnerships, and government support", - said David Songulashvili.
The German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) supported the project, which totaled EUR 5.26 million. Of this amount, GIZ provided EUR 2.26 million, while Rustavi Azot invested EUR 3 million.
Nino Tandilashvili, First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture; Aleksandre Khvtisiashvili, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs; Irakli Shatakishvili, Member of Parliament representing Rustavi and Gardabani; David Narmania, Chair of the Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission; and representatives of local government attended the meeting.
