Zestafoni Municipality has joined the ongoing nationwide environmental initiative "My First Sapling".

Within the framework of the initiative, 516 first-graders from 33 public schools planted saplings of various species.

Representatives of the local self-government and regional authorities also participated in the event. Zestafoni Municipality Mayor Vakhtang Ghambashidze, State Representative in Imereti Levan Zalkaliani, Deputy State Representative Grigol Dalakishvili, and Sakrebulo (City Council) Chairman Malkhaz Shergelashvili joined the students in planting the trees.

The "My First Sapling" program is being implemented based on a decree by the Prime Minister of Georgia. More than 41,000 first-graders are participating in the campaign across the country. The project involves: the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia and its LEPL Environmental Information and Education Centre, the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia, Tbilisi City Hall, state representatives` administrations, and municipalities nationwide.

Within the framework of the program, the planting of saplings began on October 22 and will continue through November 9. A total of 12 species of saplings will be planted, which were selected taking into account the natural and climatic conditions of the regions.
