One of the aims of arresting former Odessa governor Mikheil Saakashvili may be his extradition to Georgia. The Prosecutor"s Office of Georgia has been requested his extradition for several years.

The key guarantor of Saakashvili"s security in Ukraine was being President Poroshenko"s teammate. After Odessa"s former governor went to the opposition, the Ukrainian government"s top officials held a consultation with the Georgian authorities on the issue of Saakashvili. After every such meeting, the situation got tense around Saakashvili.

On 27 July 2017 Petro Poroshenko arrived in Georgia. Ukrainian President made a comment on the extradition of Mikheil Saakashvili. Poroshenko met with Ivanishvili.

The last meeting between the governments of Georgia and Ukraine has been held recently
