The members of the movement "White Noise" and the NGOs working on drug
politics had a discussion of recent noisy including Zviad Ratiani"s case at the meeting with President of Georgia . The main topic of the meeting was drug addiction and pardoning of persons accused for drug crimes. After the meeting, the president made comments.
"When a policy does not yield good result, when prohibitions do not yield good result, it is better to lift the prohibitions and let people decide their fate on their own. "I spoke to the group, which has long been working on the topic, which is extremely important for the public. This is formation of a more adequate drug policy instead of the violent one has been ruining lives of many people in Georgia and which could not improve the drug statistics. Therefore, we see today that the current drug policy harms many people and also creates problems for the law enforcers as well. And we also see a group that is working on a more human drug policy, "Margvelashvili said.
Civil activists and members of the movement "White Noise" said since Ratiani`s case is under investigation, the President does not consider the interference in the process proper yet.
According to them, the next meeting will be held in early January.
According to Zviad Koridze, chairperson of the Pardon Commission, it is possible to talk about the change of the pardon mechanism.
