Russia Continues Violating Security and Property Rights of Georgian People - US State Department Spokesperson

The United States calls on Russia to fully comply with the August 2008 ceasefire agreement, withdraw its troops from the occupied territories of Georgia, and withdraw the recognition of the independence of the so-called occupied regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
The US State Department spokesperson made the statement at the briefing.
According to Morgan Ortagus, Russia"s invasion of Georgia and the occupation of 20 percent of the country"s territories is a violation of fundamental norms of international law.
"As today"s actions show, Russia is constantly violating the security and property rights of the Georgian people. Russia has invaded Georgia and occupied 20 percent of the country"s territories, violating fundamental principles and norms of international law. We call on the Russian Federation to withdraw the recognition of the independence of the so-called occupied regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
We call on the Russian Federation to fully comply with the August 2008 ceasefire agreement, withdraw its troops from the occupied territories of Georgia, reaffirm and abide by the non-use of force agreement with Georgia. We will stand by the Georgian people and welcome the day when we will be able to mark the end of Russia"s occupation of Georgian territories, "said US State Department Spokesman Morgan Ortagus.
