The UK will officially leave the EU today. The European Parliament approved the Brexit agreement yesterday. The document was also endorsed by the Council of the European Union.

The 11-month transition period will begin on February 1, during which the UK will abide by EU rules, but will no longer be represented in the institutions of the organization.

After 47 years of membership, the United Kingdom is the first country to leave the bloc.
