Application for EU membership - Ruling party and opposition have radically different opinion

Georgian politicians comment on a decision made by Visegrad Group. The opposition and the ruling party have different opinion on official Tbilisi"s formal requirements from the European Union.

Representatives of majority say that before the EU membership request the country should prepare. Dimitri Tskitishvili, a Deputy Chairman of the Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee underlines that Georgia continues to move towards EU.
" We shall make a statement, whom the country will be ready . When Economic, political and democratic reforms will be on the level of European standards and our membership will be just a formality and nothing else,"- Dimitri Tskitishvili says.

Members of the minority say that Georgia has to request the EU membership timely and should make a statement as soon as possible.

Giorgi Kandelaki, member of European Georgia states that Georgia should have filed an application for the EU membership already.

"Unfortunately, we witness passivity on the foreign political arena. If we look though steps, made by Russia during last three weeks, the PM has not called any world leader to tell them about our problem,"- GIorgi Kandelaki said.
