Gigla Agulashvili`s report - report pf Minister of Environment Protection caused debates

 

The Parliament is listening to the Minister of Environment Protection. Gigla Agulashvili who is delivering a report at the Environmental Committee meeting. The Minister report was the reason of argument. Agulashvili infromed the MPs on the results of air pollution monitoring. The representatives of the opposition were trying to ask questions about the issues that were not addressed by the Minister of Environment Protection.

The minister also partially addressed the problem of greening and noted that there are limits of competence in the regions and the local self-governments themselves make decisions on this issue.

"Unfortunately, there were towns that have cut down trees on their own decision which let to grave consequences. The self-governing cities, their elected or appointed officials, must answer some questions, or the competences of the Ministry should change so that we have some control over the processes, "said Gigla Agulashvili.

The opposition blamed the Minister for Environmental Protection in an attempt to distract the attention.

Elene Khoshtaria, member of the European Georgia, reminded the minister of the promise to plant a million trees and also of "Bidzina Ivanishvili`s Traveler Trees".

"What you are talking about today is absolutely not complying with reality," -Khoshtaria said.

Giorgi Gachechiladze, the chairman of the Georgian Dream -Greens coalition, made a statement at the sitting asking the Minister to present the survey of the past situation.

He also addressed the members of the UNM and called for calm.

The representatives of the opposition also asked about the problems of cultural heritage.

 "The current government is responsible for blowing up the Sakdrisi and consequently destroying the cultural environment," said Sergo Ratiani, Member of the European Georgia.
