Eka Beselia presented in parliament criteria for appointment of judges - there are opponents in majority

The Chairman of the Legal Committee, Eka Beselia presented new criteria for the permanent appointment of judges at the plenary session. The amendment was followed by a decision of the Constitutional Court, according to which the norm which envisaged a three-year probation for the judges, was canceled.

The statement of the Chairwoman of the Committee was followed by a number of remarks that came from the majority MPs. Revaz Arveladze, deputy chairman of the Committee on Sector Economy and Economic Policy, opposes the lifelong appointment of judges.

"You know well, even the ambassadorial rotation issue, etc. The man becomes accustomed to the situaton and it is hard to predict what decisions he willtake later, "-
said Revaz Arveladze.

Guguli Maghradze, the deputy chairperson of the parliamentary committee for education, science and culture, also supported his position.

"There are so many things that can happen in the legislation in ten years since passing the exams, we do not have a guarantee that a judge will accumulate experience and retain his qualification," - said Guguli Maghradze.
