The General Prosecutor`s Office of Azerbaijan and the State Border Agency spread a joint statement on the detention of Afgan Mukhtarli.

"The journalist illegally crossed the Azerbaijani avoiding border checkpoints without any ID card ," - the statement reads.

It also states that Afgan Mukhtarli tried to escape, did not obey the requirements of the border guards, and even used force to resist the lawenforcers.The statement released by both agencies of Azerbaijan also said that the journalist had un registered cash of 10 thousand euros, Bank of Georgia plastic and other items that were interesting for investigation.
