Liberalization of drug policy - bill may not be supported by parliamentary majority

A bill on drug policy liberalization may not be supported by the parliamentary majority. The governing team has diversity of opinion on the project presented by the Ministry of Justice.

Dimitri Khundadze suggests that penalty sanctions on drugs are inadequate. He has addressed to lawmakers with the question whether there is a danger that after adoption of the bill the number of consumers will increase in the country.

"I think this bill is theoretically good, but it"s practically dangerous," Dimitri Khundadze said.

First Deputy Minister of Justice of Georgia answered his assumptions and questions. Aleksandre Baramidze excludes the possibility that number of drug consumers will be increased.

The Parliament has also discussed influence of drugs on health. Aleksande Baramidze stated that drugs are harmful for health but the main issue is if it should be the reason to detain the user.

Ada Marshania, the member of " Patriots of Georgia" states that paying penalty every time will not be a solution.
